The Wholesale Market Subcommittee is a voting body that reports to ERCOT’s Technical Advisory Committee, which in turn advises the ERCOT Board of Directors.

BPUB encourages all customers to practice simple habits that save water and help households stay ready for unexpected emergencies. Even during cooler months, Brownsville’s water resources remain under pressure due to ongoing drought conditions along the Rio Grande and regional population growth. Small conservation habits at home help reduce overall demand on the water system, preserve supply, and strengthen our community’s long-term resilience. BPUB also reminds customers our community remains in Stage 2 of the Drought Contingency Plan. Under Stage 2, outdoor watering is limited to the posted schedule to help preserve Brownsville’s water supply during ongoing regional drought conditions. BPUB Wins Award for Electrical Conservation Campaign

The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) has earned a national Award of Merit from the American Public Power Association (APPA) for its video communications campaign, “Energy Conservation: It Starts With You!” The award was presented during the 2025 APPA Customer Connections Conference held in Salt Lake City. BPUB was recognized in the Video Category for utilities with similar gross revenues competing against municipally owned utilities nationwide. BPUB Senior Digital and Information Platforms Technology Manager Miguel Collis attended the conference and accepted the award on behalf of the utility The award-winning campaign was developed entirely in-house and encouraged residential and small business customers to reduce energy use through simple, practical habits. Videos highlighted topics such as thermostat adjustments, window efficiency and reducing “energy vampires,” which are devices that continue to consume power even when not in use. During the first month alone, the campaign generated significant engagement across multiple platforms, with a combined 157,000+ total views. By combining education with creative messaging, the campaign promoted energy-efficient practices, reduced peak demand, and helped customers lower their utility bills. In addition to supporting individual households and businesses, the effort aligned with BPUB's long-term mission to promote environmental stewardship and expand community sustainability efforts. “We are honored to receive this recognition from APPA,” BPUB General Manager & CEO Marilyn D. Gilbert said. “This award reflects the hard work and creativity of our team and supports our mission to empower customers with tools that lower their costs, decrease demand on the system, and help build a more sustainable future for Brownsville.” BPUB continues to invest in innovative outreach strategies, energy-efficiency programs, and rebate opportunities that benefit customers while strengthening the region’s electric system. BPUB Wins Award for Excellence in Financial Reporting

The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 2024. This report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.   BPUB Director of Finance David Medrano sits at his desk following the finance department’s recognition by the GFOA for excellence in financial reporting.   This is the 19th consecutive year BPUB receives this prestigious award. “Our team works extremely hard to ensure the accuracy of BPUB’s financial reporting. It’s really a team effort, and I am very proud of the hard work put in by all the members of our finance team,” BPUB Chief Financial Officer Miguel A. Perez said. “This award shows the commitment that BPUB has for its customers.” The certificate of achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. BPUB Announces Temporary Road Closure

BROWNSVILLE, TX – The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) announces a temporary, partial road closure as part of the utility’s ongoing commitment to infrastructure improvement. The road closure will affect Impala Drive, between East 30th Street and Gazelle Street, Tuesday, Oct. 20, starting at 9 a.m. This closure is necessary as a BPUB crew will install a 6-inch water main line valve on Impala Drive. The closure is expected to end at approximately 8 p.m. Residents and businesses on Impala Drive will have access throughout the day. BPUB crews will install a 6-inch water main line valve on Impala Drvie.   Motorists are asked to be vigilant for road signs in these areas. All construction dates and times are approximate, and the end date and time may vary due to the nature of weather, soil conditions and job provisions. BPUB, Texas Department of Transportation and City of Brownsville departments have coordinated on this effort to make it a safe and efficient operation.
